Through knee injury, Joe Thornton remains workout (10th Feb 18 at 9:19am UTC)Quote Reply

Two weeks after Joe Thornton had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, there remains no indication whether the venerable Sharks center will be able to play again this season.

Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said he talked to Thornton on Wednesday at the team’s practice facility,Authentic Victor Hedman jersey, but did not have an update on when Thornton might skate again.

‘probably a couple hours, ‘I’d like to talk to you before you leave the rink. How long do you think you’re going to be? He goes,”‘ DeBoer said Thursday morning. “I waited for him and sure enough,“Typical Joe. I walked up into the weight room and I said, adidas James Van Riemsdyk jersey, it was two-plus. He’s right back at it.”

The Sharks issued a statement Jan. 25 that said Thornton had the surgery “to address an issue with his right medial collateral ligament” and that there was no timetable for a return.

Thornton has regularly worked out at the Sharks’ practice facility ever since he had the procedure.

The Sharks are 2-3-1 in Thornton’s absence and 28-17-8 overall, and head into Thursday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights alone in second place in the Pacific Division with 64 points. The Sharks play five of their next six games at home, adidas Auston Matthews jersey, with the next five against division foes.

At the time of his Jan. 23 injury against the Winnipeg Jets, Thornton had 36 points in 47 games.

Including Thursday’s game, adidas Daniel Sedin jersey, the Sharks have 29 regular season games remaining over the next two months. The NHL trade deadline is Feb. 26 and the playoffs are scheduled to start April 11.

The New York Rangers officially are sellers at this year’s trade deadline.

In an unprecedented dose of honesty to their fans, the 25-24-5 Rangers released a letter that confirms what many reports have been suggesting: they are open for business as the Feb. 26 deadline looms.

“As we approach the trade deadline later this month and into the summer, competitive players that combine speed, skill and character, we will be focused on adding young,” Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton and team president Glen Sather said in their joint letter Thursday.

“This may mean we lose some familiar faces, guys we all care about and respect. While this is part of the game, it’s never easy. Our promise to you is that our plans will be guided by our singular commitment: ensuring we are building the foundation for our next Stanley Cup contender.”

The players most widely connected to trade rumors include two on expiring contracts: forwards Rick Nash and Michael Grabner. The Rangers also will likely trade pending unrestricted free agent defenseman Nick Holden. Defenseman Ryan McDonagh and forward Mats Zuccarello, both under contract until 2019, have been mentioned in reports as being available as well.

In a news conference following the letter's release, Gorton and Sather acknowledged that their goal is to infuse new youth into the organization. The organization as a whole — from the front office through the players — has struggled and Gorton did not want to single out coach Alain Vigneault.

“We’re all not good enough right now,” Gorton said.

The Rangers have advanced to the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons and 11 of the past 12. But that success is in doubt this season as they are three points out of the final wild-card position, posting a 9-13-3 record since Dec. 11 with five regulation wins during that span.

Kelce brought down the house with a WWE-style oratory, the most colorful of the speeches delivered by players, coaches and executives at the conclusion of the Eagles’ rowdy Super Bowl parade Thursday.

An estimated crowd of more than 2 million fans lined the five-mile parade route up Broad Street and across the Ben Franklin Parkway to the art museum, some camping out in their spots since the night before. Free beer and ice cream were served around the city, adidas Jonathan Drouin jersey, but it wasn’t until Kelce’s speech — the Michael Strahan “stomped you out!” moment of the day — when the Philly faithful truly erupted.

Kelce spoke about underdogs and went down the entire roster, going through all the knocks against players,Authentic Nikita Kucherov jersey, all the perceived weaknesses they had. He added in the long wait Eagles fans had to endure, and even GM Howie Roseman, adidas Nikita Kucherov jersey, coaches, how they were starving for a championship and how the team is a personification of the city itself.

“You want to talk about underdogs? You want to talk about hungry dogs?” Kelce said. “Everybody wonders why we’re so mean. Everybody wonders why the Philadelphia Eagles aren’t the nicest fans.

Fans braved freezing temperatures and clogged transit lines to make it to the most anticipated event in Philadelphia history. Bars opened early,Authentic Auston Matthews jersey, Bud Light and local brewer Yards supplied free beer to fans who had a good buzz well before sunrise. Haagen-Dazs was also serving free ice cream in honor of coach Doug Pederson’s affinity for the frozen dessert.

“I anticipated y’all being lit, “but man,Authentic Daniel Sedin jersey,” Chris Maragos said to the crowd, y’all know how to party!”

The ensuing party was as wild as you might imagine for a football-loving city that had never won it all. This week, Philadelphia has resembled New York after the Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994, those small riots notwithstanding.

The city is bracing for massive crowds, limited parking and plenty of revelry for the Philadelphia Eagles’ first Super Bowl parade. Just not too much,Authentic Jonathan Drouin jersey, hopes Mayor Jim Kenney.

Kenney, who stood by the Lombardi Trophy during a news conference Tuesday, said he wants the event to be a family affair and urged fans to celebrate with passion and pride. He told "the knucklehead contingent” who caused trouble on Sunday night after the Super Bowl win to stay home.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. near Lincoln Financial Field at Broad Street and Pattison Avenue and move north up Broad Street past City Hall, and finish around 1 p.m. at the Art Museum, where a ceremony will take place.

A winter storm forecast Wednesday pushed the parade back a day. The National Weather Service says Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high of 34 degrees.

Attendance is expected to be massive. When the Phillies won the World Series in 2008, an estimated 1 million people attended the parade. Some estimate this could double or triple that. The Flyers have long claimed more than 2 million fans went wild down Broad each year for the 1974 and 1975 Stanley Cup winning teams. Sixers fans mobbed the streets for the 1983 NBA champion 76ers. But this is expected to dwarf all of them.

City officials are telling fans to use public transportation. Parking will be limited and restrictions along the route and nearby streets will go into effect at 6 p.m. Wednesday and extend into late evening Thursday.

Chris Gorman will be headed to the parade with a group of co-workers at Lehigh Valley Bail in Allentown. They plan to take a Bieber bus to avoid the “craziness and chaos” of traffic and parking.

A lifelong Birds fan, 38, Gorman, said he made the decision to attend the parade after the Eagles clinched the NFC Championship nearly three weeks ago.

Gorman said he hopes he’ll be able to get close enough to the street to get a good view of the parade.

“I’d like to watch them raise the trophy, adidas Victor Hedman jersey,” he said. “We waited a long time for it and we may never see it again.”

Since Gorman and most of the millions in attendance could be hard-pressed for an up-close view,Authentic James Van Riemsdyk jersey, 14 large Jumbotrons will be set up along Benjamin Franklin Parkway from Eakins Oval to City Hall.
